Weather Stripping

Small gaps around doors and related hardware let in more outside air than most people expect, and the effect adds up quickly when temperatures swing. The right weather stripping from Tractor Supply blocks those openings and keeps conditions indoors more stable through summer heat and winter cold.

Sealing Out the Elements Year-Round

Getting a building tight against outside elements starts with matching the right hardware to the right gap. Materials such as vinyl resist moisture and temperature changes without cracking or softening, which is why it's common on exterior doors and window frames across a range of climates. Foam compresses to fill uneven gaps that a rigid strip would bridge over without fully sealing, so it works well in spots where surfaces aren't flush. EPDM is a synthetic rubber rated for extreme cold and high heat, making it a reliable option for any exterior opening that faces harsh seasonal shifts.

Most of our weather-stripping products are rated for both indoor and outdoor use, so one purchase can take on practically any gap around your property.

Blocking Gaps at the Base and Frame

The bottom of a door is one of the first places air and moisture find a way in, especially on exterior doors that get regular use. Door seals address that by attaching to the bottom rail and pressing down against the threshold when the door is closed. Screw-on models are a common choice on standard exterior doors, while slide-on and U-shape designs slip into place without any hardware installation. For the top and sides of the frame, weatherstrip kits press into a narrow groove in the door stop and fill what the sweep doesn't cover.

Stopping Air Loss at the Window

Window frames that have shifted or aged over time often develop gaps that allow drafts and outside noise to enter. Compression seals fit between the sash, the movable portion of the window, and the surrounding frame, cutting off air movement on both sides. That's a common fix in older farmhouses, barns and shops, where original seals have flattened out and single-pane glass doesn't offer much insulation on its own. Width options accommodate standard windows and older frames, where the spacing is uneven or wider than a new install.

Filling the Spots Rigid Strips Miss

Not every gap can take a rigid weatherstrip, and tape-format weather-stripping products are built for those situations. Adhesive-backed foam tape presses directly onto windowsills, door casings and surfaces where gaps are small or the edges aren't straight. Expandable versions compress during application and expand slightly afterward, which gives them an edge in spots where the gap isn't consistent across its full length. For wider joints, backer rod, a flexible foam cord, fills the space before caulk goes in and gives the sealant a surface to grip, so the seal holds longer.

Worn or missing seals let conditioned air out and outside air in, and addressing them is one of the more direct ways to tighten a building's energy performance. Options here range from door sweep kits and window compression seals to foam tape and backer rod for smaller, harder-to-reach joints.
